Humm

This was a huge project for a global client and with it came the pressure to deliver. We were approached to pitch to earn this contract by doing an audit of their existing product and to present a new direction.

The Project

This company had a very successful product in the Fintech spec, providing financial services to shoppers in Ireland and the UK. This mobile app was a few years old and was beginning to look and feel dated with its user experience, and so we were invited to tender for the new build contract that was going to signal their growth to a more global userbase.

I carried out a full audit and research phase and listed the specifics in my plan to improve the product. That was a complete new build from top to bottom. To achieve a smoother and high quality UX, in addition to rivalling some of the competitors in this space with the aesthetics.

The Problem/Solution

The problem here was actually quite simple. I was tasked with architecting an entirely new version of a product that in 2020, was very successful but at a point of being dated. The original focus for the company was building a product and becoming successful, which resulted in decreased resources in UX.

They have already validated providing a solution to this market, so being able to focus on improving that experience, while also providing new ideas and functionality is the perfect project for a forward thinking product designer.

Research Phase

I decided to set aside thinking about UI design until the end of the process, so I focused entirely on breaking the experience and rebuilding every flow with the user central to those plans. To do this, I mapped out every flow as it currently worked and had a workshop with colleagues where we highlighted the inconsistencies and unnecessary steps for the user. Before creating a more refined version, with new features and locations to house information that made sense.

Even during a pandemic we still wanted to have user feedback, so a number of sessions were held with potential users to get live feedback on a prototype version we had created. All of the above, in addition to a significant amount of desk based research provided all of the data we needed to begin early wireframes.
